Austral Chemicals awarded by the Global Compact. Our project to convert our HCFC polyurethane systems into systems that do not affect the ozone layer or global warming won third prize in the Prosperity category at the Conecta 2025 event organized by the Global Compact Chile. We are very proud that a company of our size has been recognized by an independent jury of 50 experts from among 150 initiatives.
Under the Montreal Protocol, the Chilean government committed in 2018 to gradually reduce the consumption of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), gases that deplete the ozone layer, by 45% by 2020 and 65% by 2021, and to ban their consumption entirely by 2030. Austral immediately joined a United Nations program and took the decision to stay ahead of the curve.
Today, thanks to the work of Lorenna Saguer, Austral Chemicals is the only national company that has replaced 100% of its use of harmful HCFC-141b. As a responsible company, we have not waited for the 2030 ban to comply with the legislation and our planet's requirements
